Mohtaram Parandin, a well-known miniature painter and Christian convert imprisoned in Evin Prison, is suffering from severe medical conditions, including two tumors in her head and throat. Despite her deteriorating physical condition and the urgent need for surgery, she continues to be denied access to essential medical care.
Mohtaram Parandin, who uses the artistic name “Mahshar,” is a native of Kermanshah and an active miniature artist. She suffers from thyroid condition, acute heart disease, and two tumors: one located at the back of her head near the cerebellum, and another in her throat.
Evin Prison authorities initially refused to transfer her to a hospital, allowing medical transport only after her condition deteriorated drastically. According to reports, subsequent medical examinations resulted in a cancer diagnosis. The prison physician determined that the imprisoned painter requires immediate surgery, warning of the grave danger posed by the tumor near her cerebellum. The tumor has already caused impairments in her vision, speech, and mobility.
Mohtaram Parandin’s cellmates report that the physical impact of her illness is clearly visible in the way she walks and speaks. Despite the severe threats to her health and life, authorities have taken no steps to arrange the urgent surgery she requires.
Shackled During Chemotherapy
One of the most concerning aspects of the artist’s treatment is the way she is transferred to the medical center for chemotherapy. Prison officers transport her while she is bound in handcuffs and leg irons. This measure is being taken despite her extreme physical weakness, leaving her exposed to additional physical and psychological distress during treatment.
She also requires calcium supplements, which authorities have refused to provide.
