The city of Chabahar, in southeastern Iran, saw the funeral procession of a young woman on December 9, 2015, who died after delivering her baby in hospital.
The case is an instance of obstetric violence against women taken place in this remote city.
According to a Baluchi weblog, the 23-year-old woman was Kheiron Nessa Jad-gal who was in Imam Ali hospital on December 3, for delivery of her baby. During delivery, the baby’s head was separated from body due to excessive pressure exerted by the midwife, and the baby’s body remained in the mother’s womb.
Doctors did a c-section on the mother to remove body of the fetus, but Kheiron Nessa never came to and died a few days later.
To prevent leakage of the news and filing of complaints, hospital officials convinced the young woman’s family that filing complaints would get nowhere and if they refrained from filing their complaint, the hospital would forsake the 11million toumans charge for the delivery.
Like many families living under the poverty line in Iran, the Jad-gal family accepted the deal and agreed to just receive their daughter’s corpse for burial.
