Acting Deputy Minister of Health for Education pointed out that there is a shortage of 100,000 nurses in the country, but added,
“Nursing students will be admitted to (work in) hospitals only after passing an exam and none of them can graduate without passing the endorsed
curriculum for training of nurses.”
The reaction comes apparently after widespread protests across the country by nursing students and professors to the new directive of the Health Ministry on hospitals’ admission of nursing students.
He claimed there was a “misinterpretation” of the directive and that no private or public institution is allowed to violate the standard curriculum for training of nurses.
Hamid Akbari acknowledged that the country needs 100,000 nurses while medical students can produce a maximum of 4,000 graduates of nursing every year.
