Shahindokht Molavardi, the Iranian regime’s presidential deputy on Women and Family Affairs, said on 30 September that she has received 1,040 emails protesting the law that forces women to request their husbands’ permission to travel.
The law is related to article 18 of the Passport Law of 1972. The article says a married woman must have her husband’s permission to leave the country. This “permit” must be listed in the Register of Official Documents.
Just recently Nilufar Ardalan, captain of Iran’s national futsal team was not able to leave the country and did not participate in the Asian games in Malaysia, because her husband denied her permission to travel. Ardalan’s travel ban gained widespread coverage in social media. (Radio Zamaneh, State-run ISNA news agency – October 3, 2015)
“My husband didn’t give me my passport. Because of his opposition to travel abroad, I will miss the matches,” Ardalan said in an interview on 11 September. (Nasimonline.ir) According to the Iranian regime’s laws, issuing a separate passport and visa for married women and those under the age of 18 to leave the country, is conditioned to the consent of the husband, guardian or custodian.
