In a report on the two day session of the second annual summit of the UN Women in New York, the state-run Mehr News Agency wrote: “The main goal of this agency is realization of gender equality which is essentially unacceptable to an Islamic regime.”
The article published by Mehr expressed fear of international criticism regarding the regime’s laws and wrote: “Probably, all the laws and regulations, particularly the ones in the area of family, which guarantee different but just rights and duties will be criticized.”
In another part, the article assails international standards for gender equality and reads, “Of course, international organs and on the top of them, the UN Women, which are based on the principle of gender equality contain serious deficiencies from an Islamic viewpoint. The most important problem is in their ignoring of natural and inherent differences in men and women and their impact on the laws, rights and duties of men and women in the family.”
