Good evening ladies and gentlemen,
I was born in the Soviet Union, in Georgia, where March 8th is celebrated as a great day, a day for women and for spring and flowers. In the Soviet Union, however, this was never accompanied by a political message. There was no talk of human rights and women’s rights.
When Georgia was independent we celebrated this day, but again we did not attach a political message to it.
For me, things have changed today. I have learned a lot here in Berlin.
I have learned many important things these days from my new Iranian friends about the charismatic and courageous women of Iran.
For this reason, I am very happy that I came to Berlin to celebrate this day with you and protest against human rights abuses and violation of women’s rights.
I am very grateful Madam President and my new Iranian friends. I am much honored to be here today and stand by you. Thank you.
