On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, Raheleh Rahemipour, a 72-year-old prisoner seeking justice, detained in Qarchak Prison, in Varamin, fell due to loss of balance and sustained serious physical injuries. Following this incident, she was transferred to Mofatteh Hospital for urgent treatment.
Despite her advanced age and deteriorating health, Raheleh Rahemipour is being held without access to essential medication or medical care. Her continued detention in the unsanitary conditions of Qarchak Prison alone poses a grave threat to her life.
Although she suffers from serious illnesses and requires specialized medical attention, judicial authorities and prison officials have refused to grant her conditional release or arrange her immediate transfer to an appropriate medical facility. Both medical and judicial bodies have described her condition as critical and impossible to ignore.
Systematic Neglect of Sick Women Prisoners
The continued imprisonment of this elderly political prisoner—whose health is worsening by the day and who faces a real risk of death—constitutes a flagrant violation of human rights and a blatant disregard for international standards on the treatment of ill and elderly prisoners.
This deliberate neglect of sick women prisoners is not due to a lack of resources but rather a calculated policy by the regime to physically and psychologically wear down political detainees. Such pressures amount to a form of slow torture aimed at breaking their spirit and silencing them without public notice.
Who is Raheleh Rahemipour?
Raheleh Rahemipour was first arrested in November 2019 and was later released. In 2020, the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced her to four years in prison.
In November 2023, after appearing at Evin prosecutor’s office, she was re-arrested and transferred to Evin Prison to serve her 4-year sentence.
Mrs. Rahemipour has been trying for years to clarify the truth about the disappearance of her brother and nephew, who were imprisoned in the 1980s.
