The 81st week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign was marked by prisoner hunger strikes in 49 prisons and a strong presence of families protesting against the wave of executions.
On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the 81st consecutive week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign was held with the participation of prisoners in 49 prisons across Iran. On this day, inmates went on hunger strike to protest the escalating wave of executions being carried out in the country.
In this week’s statement, organizers of the “No to Execution Tuesdays”warned of the alarming rise in executions and called on the families of those on death row to publicize the cases of their children and loved ones, and to stage protest gatherings in order to amplify the collective voice against capital punishment.
Families: The Frontline of Resistance Against Execution
Once again, the families of political prisoners sentenced to death played a pioneering role in this campaign. Mothers, fathers, and spouses—despite facing security threats and economic hardship—stood at the forefront of the protests.
Among them was the mother of Akbar Daneshvarkar, who, despite illness and old age, attended demonstrations alongside her ailing husband. Holding her son’s photograph and a placard reading “Free Political Prisoners”, she expressed her solidarity with the movement.
The families of other prisoners, including Vahid Bani-Amerian and Pouya Ghobadi, were also present at recent gatherings. Carrying signs reading “No to Execution”, “Free the Prisoners”, and “Support no to Execution Tuesdays”, they reaffirmed their determination to continue this protest movement.
