The number of women heads of household has more than doubled in a 20-year period.
This was admitted by Seyed Hassan Moussavi Chalak, chair of the Social Aid Association of Iran. In remarks published by the state-run press and media, Chalak said, “According to the country’s official census, there were more than 3 million women heads of household in Iran in 2016.
In 2011, the number of women heads of household was 2,553,000 and in 2010, it was 1,666,000. There were less than 1.2 million women heads of household in 1996. So, in a time span of 20 years, the population of women heads of household has doubled.” (The state-run Salamatnews.com, May 19, 2018)
