Remarks at roundtable discussion, “Women in Leadership, the Experience of the Iranian Resistance” – Tirana, IWD 2017
We must join in a common action and unite our voices in our countries for the women of Iran and women of the Iranian Resistance.
Madam President, Mrs. Rajavi,
We cannot remain indifferent to what is going with women in many countries and sit aside. Women cannot allow and sit idle about women who are deprived of human rights, education and health. Women must enjoy freedom because we and the women of the Iranian Resistance have proven that we are pillars who represent the family. Women endeavor to create a society where men and women can work alongside each other. In reality, however, and before anything else, we need freedom to realize this important task.
In my country, Spain, we suffer from a kind of sexual violence which continued for a long time and led to the murder of many women only because they were women. The scars of this violence remain in our minds and politically, as well.
Therefore, I believe that women have the responsibility of raising their voice. We must prevent the incidents that are happening every day in this century, not only against women but against children. We must join in a common action and unite our voices in our countries for the women of Iran and women of the Iranian Resistance.
The first time I met the Women’s Committee in this conference, I urged members of the Parliament of Spain to respond to the call by these women urging us to help them in our countries. I believe that we must follow up this issue. We cannot allow Western countries to support the totalitarian regimes like the Iranian regime.
I believe that Iran must have a free and democratic country with a new generation. Our youths must enjoy freedom just as we have the freedom to express our views anywhere in our country and do not face imprisonment, arrest and death. This is why freedom is necessary.
With your permission, Madam President, the most important thing is that we must be your voice and your people’s voice in our countries to help you. We must assist you to the extent we can so that Iran could also be free. This is our desire to see you as the president of your country. To this end, we declare to the world that we are with you and all these women and your people.
