Remarks at roundtable discussion, “Women in Leadership, the Experience of the Iranian Resistance” – Tirana, IWD 2017
This is not just a resistance movement, but it is a movement that proposes a new option for living.
This is the first time I am taking part in such a program. Therefore I would like to speak about my feelings when I joined your gathering. The first night, seeing these smiling women was so amazing to me. They paid a lot of attention to us and there was a warm reception. Then I learned today how much these women have suffered and their tortuous experiences are inconceivable for us. Only a small part of what you have experienced can destroy us.
Therefore, we and at least myself, I feel very humble before the reality of these women and I must learn from them very much. I believe that we must also learn a lot from the strategy used in this issue, a strategy that redefines the relationship between men and women.
I don’t know how we can disseminate this information throughout the world, but I know that this is a precious jewel. This is a gem that we, western women who think we have had a lot of progress in this regard, have to ponder about. But we don’t know how to find a new way for coexistence of men and women. The reason I say this is that this is a precious gem and I want to learn more about it. I want to learn about the system and learn about the method of achieving this coexistence. I am committed to disseminating this information.
Yet, another issue I would like to bring up is that basically we do not know much about this movement. I personally discovered it a year ago. But if I bring up this issue in Sicily, where I come from, no one would know anything about it while they must know about it and know even more because this is not just a resistance movement, but it is a movement that proposes a new option for living.
I don’t know how, but I know that I must learn more about your movement to be able to speak about it.
Thank you.
