Officials of the Public Prosecutor’s Office have turned down conditional release and medical leave for Tahereh Jafari, currently detained in the women’s ward of Tehran’s Evin Prison.
Jafari, 54, suffers from back and heart problems. Physicians have emphasized that she needs to be constantly cared for and sent to a hospital every three months to receive proper treatment.
Jafari was arrested and transferred to ward 209 on November 6, 2012. She was held for two months under interrogation in solitary confinement without being able to visit her lawyer or family members.
