Nahid Gorji has been released on bail as her release was approved due to her chronic depression and inadequate spiritual conditions. She has been hospitalized many times for mental problems, and has now been released because of her treatment.
Gorji was arrested on October 11, 2014 when security agents came to her home, searched her residence and transferred her to a court in Mashhad. She was then transferred to an unknown location. Two weeks later officials issued a ruling for her bail at 4 billion rials (around $115,000), which her family said they could not afford.
Eight Members of the European Parliament issued a joint letter on December 8, 2014 to EU foreign policy chief Frederica Mogherini expressing their concerns over the detention of Nahid Gorji. They called on Mogherini to raise their concerns about this civil activist with the Iranian regime and demand Ms. Gorji’s immediate release.
