On January 15, 2014, state-run ISNA news agency reported that according to the National Census Center, population of Iran was estimated at 74,810,573 by 20 March 2013. According to this census, 50.2% of the population is male and 49.8% are female. Percentage of the population living in the cities was 72% and that 2% of the population were the Afghans.
In a report by the National Census Center, details of 12.1% unemployment were given with unemployment of women twice that of the men.
In the Persian year starting on 21 March 2012 and ending on 20 March 2013, of the 23,476,462 active population of the country, over 12.1% were unemployed. The rate of unemployment for men was 10.4% and for women was 19.7%.
According to the economy reporter of Fars news agency quoting the census, country’s population was estimated at 74,810,573 where 12,098,694 were less than 10 years old and 62,711,879 were over 10. In other words, 83.8% of the population are in the work age (10 years and older).
The highest rate of unemployment was 29.1% for those between 20 and 24 years old and the lowest rate was 6% for those over 65.
