As pressure on women political prisoners and detainees from the nationwide protests continues, new reports point to an escalation in the denial of medical treatment, the issuance of prison sentences, and the continued arrest of women across Iran. The reports indicate the ongoing use of security and judicial measures against women political prisoners.
Shadi Shadman, Mother of a 9-Year-Old Child
Shadi Shadman (Khajijeh), a detained female head of household and mother of a 9-year-old child, has been sentenced to five years in prison by the judiciary of the mullahs’ regime. Ms. Shadman was arrested during the uprising in early January and was transferred to the women’s ward of Evin Prison on January 29.
Leila Afarin Continues to Be Denied Specialized Medical Care
Leila Afarin, a political prisoner held in Evin Prison, continues to be denied access to specialized medical treatment despite suffering from a malignant brain tumor and joint disorders.
Although she has served a significant portion of her sentence, authorities have not approved her request for conditional release or leave leading to release.
Her physical condition has deteriorated severely, and she is experiencing symptoms including loss of balance, tremors in her hands and legs, and declining vision.
Born in 1993, Leila Afarin was arrested by security forces and transferred to the women’s ward of Evin Prison on December 10, 2025. She was later sentenced by Tehran Revolutionary Court to one year in prison.
Negin Kiani Sentenced to One Year in Prison
Negin Kiani, a documentary photographer and photography instructor based in Tehran, was sentenced to one year in prison on charges of propaganda against the state under a ruling issued on June 27 by Branch 1 of the Babol Revolutionary Court.
Raheleh Moeini Sentenced to 2.5 Years in Jail
Raheleh Moeini, a student at the Polytechnic University of Milan and one of those arrested during the nationwide protests in January 2026 while visiting Iran. She has been sentenced to two years and six months in prison, along with a two-year travel ban. She is currently being held in Qarchak Prison.
Prison Sentence and Internal Exile for Neda Dadehjani
Neda Dadehjani, a Kurdish artist from Qorveh in Kurdistan province (western Iran) and a detainee from the nationwide protests, has been sentenced to three years of imprisonment and two years of internal exile in Nik-Shahr. Two years of her prison sentence are enforceable.
She was convicted by the Revolutionary Court on charges of assembly and collusion against national security and by the Criminal Court on charges of disrupting public order.
Fatemeh Jami Arrested in Gorgan
Fatemeh Jami, a resident of Gorgan, has remained in detention following her arrest by security forces.
She was arrested at home on June 30 by the Cyber Police and was later formally charged by the Gorgan Prosecutor’s Office for insulting religious sanctities and maintaining links with opposition groups.
Her arrest was connected to her online activities, particularly her activity on Instagram.
