Isolated for 8 months, political prisoner Massoumeh Senobari faces intolerable conditions

Political Prisoner Massoumeh Senobari Brutalized in Fardis Prison

July 9, 2025
in Women's News

Political prisoner Massoumeh Senobari was brutally beaten and severely bruised by prison officials in Fardis Prison in Karaj, on Sunday, July 6, 2025.

Ms. Senobari had been identified as one of the leading voices behind anti-regime chants during the conclusion of an Ashura religious ceremony in the women’s ward of Fardis Prison. A group of female inmates chanted slogans such as “Death to Khamenei,” “Curse be upon Khomeini,” and “Salute to Hossein,” openly expressing their dissent toward the mullahs’ regime before the ceremony closed.

In response to the protest, the head of the women’s ward, named Kolivand, summoned Massoumeh Senobari to her office, where according to informed sources inside the prison, she was violently assaulted.

Ms. Senobari reportedly returned to the ward with severe bruising on her face and body and was unable to stand without assistance.

Who is Massoumeh Senobari?

Massoumeh Senobari, 37, is a political prisoner from Tabriz and the mother of a teenage daughter.

She was arrested during the nationwide protests of 2022 in the city of Karaj. On December 13, 2022, she was detained by security forces and subjected to 40 days of intense interrogation under pressure at the Karaj Intelligence Department before being transferred to Fardis Prison. She was accused of being a leader of the protests.

Massoumeh Senobari was detained in isolation under severe restrictions for at least a year in Fardis Prison.

The Revolutionary Court of Karaj sentenced her to 90 months in prison on charges of “membership in the People’s Mojahedin Organization,” “participation in illegal gatherings,” and “propaganda against the state.”

In a separate case, she received an additional 18-month sentence, bringing her total prison term to 9 years.

ABOUT US

NCRI Women Committee

We work extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintain a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women’s rights organizations and NGO’s and the Iranian diaspora.
The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Council meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.
