Massoumeh Senobari and Massoumeh Yavari are detained in horrendous conditions
Two political prisoners, Massoumeh Senobari and Massoumeh Yavari are undergoing intolerable conditions in Iranian prisons. Following are the latest updates on these two brave women.
Massoumeh Senobari remains isolated after 10 months
Political prisoner Massoumeh Senobari has been detained in solitary confinement, isolated from other inmates, for over 10 months in the Fardis Prison of Karaj, also known as Kachouii.
Massoumeh Senobari faces some kind of new torture every day. Recently, the duration of her calls to her family has been reduced to only three minutes in the presence of an intelligence agent. She is not allowed to even dial her number and the agent dials the number for her. If the family speaks Azeri, the agent cuts off the call.
Political prisoner Massoumeh Senobari was born in 1988 in Tabriz. She has a young daughter.
She was arrested for a second time during the nationwide protests in Karaj on December 13, 2022. She was detained at the detention center of the Intelligence Department until January 4, 2023, when she was moved to the women’s ward of Fardis Prison upon completion of her interrogations. Massoumeh Senobari is accused of being a leader of the protests.
The Revolutionary Court of Karaj sentenced her to seven years and six months of imprisonment for “participation in action against the state through membership in the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK),” “disseminating propaganda against the state through participation in illegal gatherings, illegal publicity, writing slogans (on the walls), distributing the images of PMOI leaders.”
Massoumeh Yavari transferred to IRGC Intelligence jail
Massoumeh Yavari is another political prisoner, who has been arrested and imprisoned without standing trial since September 4, 2023. She was detained in Isfahan’s Dowlatabad Prison but was transferred to the detention center of the IRGC Intelligence, on October 5, 2023.
Mrs. Yavari suffers from various illnesses, including diabetes, thyroid malfunction, and heart problems. She has been deprived of receiving her medications since her arrest.
Massoumeh Yavari is presently under interrogation in the IRGC Intelligence.
Intelligence department agents also arrested Ms. Yavari’s 21-year-old son, Mohammad Mehdi Vossoughian, on September 20, 2023. After his mother’s arrest, he continuously followed up on her situation. He visited the prison several times to deliver medication to his sick mother but returned home without any results.
Massoumeh Yavari was born in 1979 and lives in Golpayegan in Isfahan Province. Security forces arrested her in Tehran in September 2009. She was later sentenced to seven years in prison for having contacts with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).
