Heartbreaking Tragedy: The Case of Yalda Rahimi

The Unfortunate Death of a Young Girl

In a deeply tragic event, Yalda Rahimi, a 17-year-old girl from Bagh-e Malek, a town in Khuzestan Province, Iran, ended her life on September 16, 2024, due to severe poverty and lack of social welfare. Her final moments took place in the bathroom of the Khomeini Relief Foundation’s office in her town.

Desperation Amidst School Openings

On the day of her death, Yalda Rahimi had visited the Khomeini Relief Foundation seeking assistance just before the school year was set to begin. After her request was denied, she chose to take her own life in the bathroom of the relief office.

Her father had taken his own life by hanging himself several years earlier, leaving Yalda to live with her grandfather in the village of Dam Ab.

A Stark Contrast to Government Spending

This heartbreaking incident highlights a severe discrepancy between the Iranian government’s lavish expenditures on its projects and the dire situation of its most vulnerable citizens. The regime’s focus on enforcing Hijab laws and other dramatic measures contrasts sharply with its neglect of basic social welfare needs.

As the regime invests billions in its theatrical plans, children like Yalda Rahimi, who desperately need support, are left without aid.

Growing Concern Over Youth Suicides

Official reports indicate a troubling rise in suicides among Iranian youth in recent years. This alarming trend is often a reflection of growing social despair and a lack of prospects, as the clerical regime has destroyed the country’s infrastructures and driven at least 60 percent of the populace under the poverty line. ABOUT US

NCRI Women Committee

We work extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintain a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women’s rights organizations and NGO’s and the Iranian diaspora.
The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Council meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.
