Professor Fariba Khorramabadi Sentenced to 1.5 Years in Prison

October 24, 2025
in Women's News

Fariba Khorramabadi, a professor of theology and political prisoner, has been sentenced by the Karaj Revolutionary Court to one and a half years in prison. The verdict was officially delivered to her on October 23, 2025, inside Fardis Prison, also known as Kachoui Prison, in Karaj.

According to the court’s ruling, Fariba Khorramabadi was convicted on charges of “propaganda against the state” and “membership in anti-government networks.” Her trial was held on October 7, 2025, in one of the branches of the Karaj Revolutionary Court.

Deteriorating Health Conditions in Prison

Fariba Khorramabadi, who has a history of heart attack, is reportedly in deteriorating health inside Fardis Prison.

She has been given incorrect medication, resulting in severe neurological side effects, including nervous tics and recurring seizures. Despite her critical condition, prison guards reportedly shackled her hands and feet while attempting to transfer her to a hospital—a humiliating act that aggravated her physical distress. In protest against such treatment, she refused to be taken to the hospital.

Arrest Without Warrant and Confiscation of Personal Belongings

Fariba Khorramabadi, a resident of Karaj originally from Khorramabad, was arrested in August 2025 by security forces at her home without a judicial warrant. During the raid, officers ransacked her residence and confiscated personal items including her laptop and mobile phone. Following her arrest, she was immediately transferred to Fardis Prison in Karaj.

Academic Background and Family

Fariba Khorramabadi is a theology professor, religious scholar, and mother of one child. She has been active in academic and social fields for many years and has no prior criminal record. Her family and colleagues have expressed grave concern over her health and the conditions of her detention at Fardis Prison

ABOUT US

NCRI Women Committee

We work extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintain a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women’s rights organizations and NGO’s and the Iranian diaspora.
The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Council meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.
