On Tuesday, July 30, and Wednesday, July 31, 2024, female prisoners in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad confronted the female suppressive agents of the regime who had entered the ward with the intention of causing harassment and pressure.
The angry prisoners proceeded to destroy the surveillance cameras inside the ward and broke all the windows. Following these clashes, the prison’s authorities transferred several of the female prisoners from the general ward to various locations, including the psychiatric ward. The exact locations are not all known, and some remain unknown until Saturday night.
The Women’s Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran condemns the suppression and torture of women in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad, which has effectively been a torture chamber and a slaughterhouse since the 1980s.
The NCRI Women’s Committee calls for a visit by the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women to this prison. The committee emphasizes that the detention conditions and locations of each of the female prisoners must be determined, and their access to medical services guaranteed.
