The Women’s Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) welcomes the European Parliament’s measure in awarding the 2023 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought to Jina Amini and the Iranian women’s protest movement.
Last year, in the midst of the 2022 Iranian uprising, members of the European Parliament designated the Iranian regime’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist entity. The IRGC is the main force of suppression inside Iran and is in charge of the export of terrorism abroad. The MEPs thus demonstrated that contrary to the policy of appeasement, they have adopted the right and principled policy against religious fascism ruling Iran and its IRGC.
On Thursday, October 19, the President of the European Parliament, Ms. Roberta Metsola, announced the 2023 laureate of the Sakharov Prize to be Jina Mahsa Amini and the Woman, Life, Freedom Movement in Iran, saying that the EP “continues to honor all those who have paid the ultimate price for liberty.”
President Metsola stated, “The European Parliament proudly stands with the brave and defiant who continue to fight for equality, dignity and freedom in Iran.”
The NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi expressed her gratitude to the European Parliament and its President Roberta Metsola for their solidarity with the Iranian uprising and its martyrs for the Iranian people’s freedom. She expressed hope that the European Union would adopt a decisive policy against the mullahs’ misogynist regime.
She pointed out, “Today, there remains no doubt that the overthrow of the clerical regime not only is the desire of the Iranian people but also is essential to end war and terrorism, and indispensable to achieving regional and global peace.”
