Zahra Hatami, an 8th grader, committed suicide on Sunday, October 1, 2023, after school authorities expelled her from school for wearing nail polish.
Zahra Hatami was studying at Narjes High School in Vahidieh, Shahriar, one of Tehran’s suburbs. She was expelled from school for three days for wearing nail polish.
Zahra Hatami was afraid of going home to tell her father. Some reports indicate that she was afraid of being forcibly married after being expelled from school. So, she jumped off the roof of a half-built building near the school.
Iranian schools and universities are enforcing tough regulations following the adoption of the new Hijab and Chastity law.
In other news, on Monday, October 2, one of the female students of Tehran University’s School of Agriculture and Natural Resources fainted following a verbal altercation with security forces on campus. She was transferred to a hospital.
After the adoption of the new Hijab and Chastity Law, university students have been subjected to insulting treatment by security forces roaming on campuses around the country.
