The mother of Armita Geravand has been arrested

The mother of Armita Geravand was arrested after a forced TV interview

The clerical regime’s security services have violently arrested Shahin Ahmadi, the mother of Armita Geravand, on the evening of Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at the Fajr Hospital, social media reports and human rights groups say.

The state-run Tasnim news agency has denied the arrest of the mother of Amita Geravand.

Armita Geravand, 16, was allegedly attacked by guidance patrols in a Tehran metro station on Sunday, October 1, shoving her so badly that she suffered head trauma and fell into a coma. Her friends said her head was bleeding when a nurse or doctor at the metro station gave her CPR before she was transferred to the Air Force’s Fajr Hospital in an ambulance.

Armita Geravand is presently in a coma and hospitalized in the ICU of the Fajr Hospital.

An entire ward was evacuated in the Fajr Hospital which was surrounded by intelligence agents, security forces, and plainclothes agents. No one is allowed to see Armita Geravand, even her parents. Her friends who took her to the hospital were under arrest for three days.

On October 3, after two days, her parents were interviewed by IRNA TV, saying she had fainted due to a drop in her blood pressure. The interview was carried out in the hospital under the heavy presence of security officials. An unknown woman, identified as “a relative,” was interviewed by the TV saying that the guidance patrol attack on the young woman was a rumor disseminated by enemies of the state.

Social media users question the woman’s identity and say she was most probably a government agent.

Has Armita Geravand, 16, suffered the fate of Zhina Mahsa Amini?

In other related news, it has been reported that the “veil watchers” at the metro stations have been withdrawn since Sunday when Armita Geravand was attacked.

In addition, the security forces of the Education Ministry (Herasat) and a team of security services went to the Orvat ol-Vosgha School of Art, where Armita Geravand studied. They have reportedly threatened all students and friends of Armita to refrain from posting or sharing any information or photos of her.

An electronic newspaper, FARAZ, interviewed Armita’s father, who said he was at work and did not have any information on her daughter who was in a coma. The father’s comment has raised many eyebrows! The editor of the newspaper later denied publishing the interview.

In the meantime, her friends, Mahla and Fatemeh, were interviewed by IRNA. In unemotional comments, they repeated the regime’s narrative of what happened on that early morning, when they were going to school.

Meanwhile, the authorities have released a longer and obviously “edited” version of the CCTV footage to prove that no confrontation took place at the metro station. The footage, however, does not contain any footage from inside the wagon, where Armita Geravand “fainted!”

The mobile phones of all members of Armita’s family have been confiscated by security forces under suspicion of sending any recorded images after the release of Armita’s photos in the ICU.

Indeed, even if one accepts that Armita Geravand fainted due to a sudden drop in her blood pressure, how could she hit her head so hard to an iron edge in a packed metro wagon while being surrounded by friends and the public?

Medical reports say she has suffered a brain hemorrhage due to a blow to her head. Her chances of survival are unfortunately low.

The mother of Armita Geravand has been arrested

The NCRI Women’s Committee repeats the call yesterday by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi urging the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women to promptly inquire about Armita’s condition and dispatch a representative to visit the innocent girl before it becomes too late.

ABOUT US

NCRI Women Committee

We work extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintain a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women’s rights organizations and NGO’s and the Iranian diaspora.
The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Council meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.
