Call for urgent action to stop anti-human pressure on women political prisoners
NCRI Women’s Committee strongly condemns Atena Daemi’s forcible exile
In continuation of a string of female political prisoners’ forced exiles, Atena Daemi was forcibly and violently sent to exile from Evin Prison in Tehran to Lakan Prison in Rasht on Tuesday, March 16. After five years of imprisonment without leave, her removal was sudden and without any prior notice. She was not even allowed to collect her belongings or inform her family.
Atena Daemi was one of 14 women political prisoners who protested the deportation of Maryam Akbari Monfared, who was also forcibly exiled to Semnan Prison during her twelfth year in prison for supporting the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK/PMOI). Steadfast women prisoners in Evin had earlier said in a statement that regardless of their own faith or beliefs, they praised their comrade’s perseverance in the regime’s prisons.
On January 24, 2021, political prisoner Golrokh Iraee was beaten and deported from Qarchak Prison in Varamin to Amol prison (north Iran).
The Women’s Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) strongly condemns the clerical regime’s brutal actions and inhumane pressures against women prisoners and the forced and violent exile of Atena Daemi and other resolute prisoners, including Maryam Akbari Monfared, and Golrokh Iraee. NCRI Women’s Committee urges the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to condemn this misogynist regime and to urgently take measures to force it to end its inhumane treatment of female political prisoners.
The NCRI Women’s Committee also urges the special envoy of the High Commissioner and the UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Iran to meet with Maryam Akbari Monfared, Atena Daemi, and other women prisoners in Evin Prison. The latter are also subject to forced and violent exile.
