Across Iran, the Coronavirus death toll has exceeded 204,000. Harsh winter conditions and the next wave of the Coronavirus are on their way. One of the effects of the spread of the Coronavirus in Iran is the increase in the number of deaths among housewives.
In addition to dealing with the Coronavirus, people in various cities are suffering from air pollution and the lack of electricity. Air pollution has exacerbated the spread of the Coronavirus and continues to make people more susceptible to infection.
“According to national statistics published by the Ministry of Health, air pollution kills 4,500 residents of Tehran and more than 30,000 people around the country annually,” said Shina Ansari, the head of Environment and Sustainable Development at the Municipality of Tehran.
Even though most cities in Iran are high-risk ‘red’ cities, people still form long queues to buy their necessities.
Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of the mullahs’ regime, announced that the purchase and import of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines into Iran is prohibited.
Meanwhile, the regime’s president, Hassan Rouhani, has announced that Iranian students must attend classes in person starting in late February.
The regime leaders’ inhumane policies, which have been announced officially, have raised many concerns about a new and growing wave of casualties.
Death of housewives on the rise
Among those who have succumbed to the deadly Covid-19, the death of housewives is thought-provoking. In Hamadan Province, 46% of Coronavirus patients are housewives (The state-run Borna News Agency – July 14, 2020). In Ardabil Province, 70% of those hospitalized are housewives and people over 65 years old (The state-run Ardabil.irib.ir – November 27, 2020).
The rate of death among housewives due to Coronavirus is increasing. “Compared to sick people in Covid-19 hospital wards, the incidence is higher among housewives,” said the head of Ardabil University of Medical Sciences.
Shahram Habibzadeh added: “According to the available statistics, 52% of the patients are women, most of whom are housewives” (The state-run Ardabil.irib.ir – October 27, 2020).
“Unfortunately, in the province, we are witnessing an increase in the prevalence of the virus among housewives. Family members leave the house every day and return home with contaminated clothes, hands, and faces. The mother in the family is exposed to a number of infectious factors in this situation. In fact, being a housewife in such conditions is among the most important issues for this group regarding Coronavirus infections,” Moradzadeh, director of the epidemiology department of Arak University of Medical Sciences, said (The state-run Borna News Agency – October 14, 2020).
At a glance, it is obvious that housewives are the majority of those waiting in long queues in the cold to purchase oil, gas, kerosine and many other items.
“Catastrophic situation,” according to state media
“Coronavirus continues to spread rapidly, and conditions in many parts of the country are critical,” wrote the state-run Mizan News Agency, on January 17, 2021.
“The ‘fourth wave’ of the pandemic is much more dangerous and mutated and can do a lot of damage to society,” according to the state-run Mehr News Agency, on January 17, 2021.
Officials at the Coronavirus headquarters in Iran spoke about the timing of public access to the Iranian vaccine. “Until the end of June 2021, vaccines will not be available to the public” (The state-run ISNA News Agency – January 17, 2021).
“With the smallest fault or neglect, we will return to the difficult and unimaginable conditions of November,” said Saeed Khal, the Managing Director of Behesht-e Zahra cemetery (The state-run Fars News Agency – January 18, 2021).
The religious dictatorship ruling Iran uses the Iranian people as human shields to secure and continue its illegitimate regime during the Covid-19 pandemic. The mullahs’ regime is trying to introduce even more poverty, hunger, and disease as a means of preventing popular uprisings. Thus, the regime prevents the introduction of vaccines under false pretenses. Meanwhile, a significant number of housewives who are deprived of any government and social support have been targeted by the deadly virus.
