Four women’s rights activists were summoned to prison to carry out their sentences. The four women’s rights activists had previously been sentenced to a total of 16 years and eight months in prison by the Tehran Revolutionary Court.
The four women’s rights activists, Nahid Shaqaqi, Akram Nasirian, Maryam Mohammadi, and Esrin Derkaleh, must introduce themselves to the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Tehran Revolutionary Court by March 18, 2020.
These women were summoned while prison conditions in Iran are very dangerous due to the spread of the coronavirus where the prisoners have no safety from. A prisoner said, “We’re buried alive here!”
Nahid Shaqaqi, Akram Nasirian, Maryam Mohammadi, and Esrin Derkaleh, have each been sentenced to 4 years and 2 months in prison.
In another development, one of those arrested, Fatemeh Kohanzadeh, was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment and 50 lashes for participating in the November uprising. Fatemeh Kohanzadeh was arrested for taking part in the 40th day ceremony of Pouya Bakhtiari, one of the martyrs of the November uprising, and her sentence was announced by Branch 1 of the Karaj Revolutionary Court on February 24, 2020. She was recently sent to Kachui Prison in Karaj. Fatemeh was taken to court in restraints.
During this time, despite being bailed several times, the court refused to release her. Fatemeh Kohanzadeh is the mother of two children.
In other news, Nazanin Zaghari went on vacation with electronic tag on her ankle. Nazanin Zaghari has been given two weeks leave from prison. She is serving a 5-year sentence in Evin Prison.
Nazanin Zaghari’s husband, Richard Ratcliffe said she had to have an electronic tag all the time for two weeks and could not be more than 300 meters away from her parents’ home.
