In a report entitled, “Tsunami of 40 million Iranians who sit at home”, the state-run Mehr news agency announced November 23, 2015, that according to the latest statistics of Iran’s Census Center, 28,205,198 of the total 40.1 million economically inactive
population in Iran are women, while the total work force in Iran is 64,016,690.
The new term “economically inactive” is coined by the regime to evade acknowledging high rate of unemployment in Iran. Even the author of the report confesses there is something wrong about over 28million Iranian women sitting at home while hundreds of thousands of them have university education.
Also the state-run Tabnak website and TNews.ir based on the same statistics wrote that over 110,000 of the country’s unemployed are people with PhD degrees. They also indicated that unemployment is more rampant among those with a bachelor’s degree, the majority of them being women. They said this shows the terrible conditions of the Iranian job market particularly in light of the double digit unemployment rate.
