In reaction to the meeting on prostitution and its shocking statistics in Iran, co-sponsored by the women’s directorate in the presidential office, the TNews.ir website affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps revealed even more shocking information on this issue.
The article read in part:
“Without doubt, the issue of women’s prostitution must be considered as one of the most significant problems in the women’s community these days. Now, we see that the social age for prostitution has sharply decreased and some unofficial circles have presented very worrying figures on high school girls undergoing abortion!
“Although, most sociologists and experts concur that social problems are not created overnight and cannot be resolved overnight either, one cannot deny the government’s role as the most significant element in such social crises. There are many women in society who are exposed to this danger, ranging from high school girls to young, single women to mal-treated married women to widowed and divorced women!”
Considering that the meeting on prostitution discussed findings from eight years ago, the article cited Minoo Mohraz, specialist of infectious diseases and head of the AIDS research center, as saying, “We have done a study in 2013 which shows a much worse condition than in 2007. Presently, there are 500 addicted women on the streets.”
The TNews.ir also cited Homa Davoodi, jurist, who shed light on the gravity of the problem. She said, “This issue has spread so extensively that physicians and sociologists say that we must recognize them and merely work to prevent the spread of the diseases.”
