Prevention Deputy of Isfahan Province’s General Welfare Department announced that out of 15,000 Iranians who sleep in cardboard boxes on the streets are women and the same ratio is true for Isfahan.
The official, Marzieh Farshad said, “Previously most of the homeless slept on the streets were men, but the number of women sleeping in boxes on the streets has risen over the past few months.”
Farshad added that most of the homeless women are addicts who use injections. The percentage of addicted women has increased from 5 to 9.3 per cent in recent years, she said.
It should be noted that actual figures are always much higher than those officially announced by the regime.
