Teachers across the country had vowed to raise their voice if their rightful demands were not met. Following a wave of widespread protests in February and March, teachers staged numerous demonstrations in Tehran and 60 other cities in recent days.
Thousands of protesting teachers rallied outside the offices of the Education Department offices despite security threats. Brave Iranian women stood firm alongside their male colleagues. In Tehran, teachers rallied outside the regime’s parliament and the offices of the Education Department.
Teachers held posters and shouted slogans demanding the release of imprisoned teachers and ending the climate of fear and crackdown against teachers. They also demanded improvements to their living conditions. Some of the slogans written on the posters included: “Free imprisoned teachers”, “Teachers must rise against discrimination”, “Teachers are fed up with discrimination”, “Line of Poverty =30 million rials – We receive 10 million rials” and “Our pain is not poverty but discrimination.”
