Women’s Day 2013 – Alima Boumediene-Thiery

March 8, 2013
in IWD Speeches

Alima Boumediene-Thiery – Former MP, France

I really wanted to attend this meeting, because you are all women, from Palestine, Jordan, Afghanistan, Syria, Tunisia, and I forget. But all these women and all those fights that you represent today give a more precious, special, and important value.

It seemed important to me that all these women come from all society, which also come from around the world to express themselves. And thanks to you, Madam Rajavi, once again we have the opportunity to meet. And these Iranian women you represent are very noble.

These women who are  fighting today, especially in Ashraf and Liberty, despite all these very difficult conditions, fight alongside their brothers, along with their children, in spite of an extremely complex situation continue to carry high the flag of hope, strength and justice. And that, I think it should not be forgotten. When a woman fights, she fights for the rights of all. When a woman fights for women’s rights, she fights for the rights of society.

Silence is unacceptable. A silence that continues under the pretext of not disturbing perhaps, and continues to encourage the practice of some governments, the Iraqi government, the government of the mullahs, and the repression and massacre continues.

And this is not acceptable because silence is complicity. I believe it is now urgent to transfer these women and men where they lived for 25 years. Transfer them; because on one hand Ashraf is much greater and they are much more secure,  because they have concrete shelters, they have much more to protect themselves. So I thank you again, Madame Rajavi, for the role that you are playing for the model you are for  women, but also for the movement.

ABOUT US

NCRI Women Committee

We work extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintain a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women’s rights organizations and NGO’s and the Iranian diaspora.
The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Council meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.
