Marking its 130th week across 59 prisons, the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign continues its hunger strike, joined this week by Neyshabur Prison.
The 130th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign comes as the hunger strike by prisoners in Unit 2 of Qezel Hesar Prison—where more than 1,500 prisoners are on death row—has been ongoing for over a week. Protesting prisoners held placards reading, “Imprisonment and Execution Are Not the Fate of Iran’s Youth,” voicing their support for the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign and emphasizing that they will persist in their protest until their demands are met.
Coinciding with the seventh day of this strike, more than 500 family members of the prisoners gathered outside Qezel Hesar Prison, demanding the revocation of death sentences. According to reports, security forces stationed at the prison attempted to block the gathering and disperse the families, but the demonstrators maintained their presence while chanting protest slogans.
Active Participation of Female Prisoners
Over the past two years, the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign has grown into the most extensive and sustained protest movement within Iranian prisons. Despite severe security pressure, threats, communication restrictions, and punitive measures, the movement continues its activities, with more prisoners across the country joining every week.
A significant portion of these striking prisoners consists of female political prisoners serving their sentences in the women’s wards of Evin Prison, Qarchak Prison in Varamin, Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz, Adelabad Prison in Shiraz, Zahedan Prison, Yazd Prison, and Lakan Prison in Rasht.
