More than 60 female political prisoners transferred from Qarchak to Evin Prison are sleeping on cold floors, without blankets, heating, or adequate hygiene, as families raise urgent concerns.
At dawn on October 9, 2025, over 60 female political prisoners were abruptly moved from Qarchak Prison in Varamin to Ward 6 of Evin Prison. Prisoners report being deprived of beds, blankets, and any form of heating, and several have already fallen ill due to the cold autumn weather.
One prisoner described the conditions: “Many women are sleeping on the cold cement floor. The air is heavy, lighting is insufficient, and access to hot water is extremely limited.”
Midnight Operation Under Heavy Security
The transfer took place in the middle of the night, without prior notice, with numerous security forces, military vehicles, cage trucks, and ambulances entering Qarchak. Prisoners, many asleep, were searched and forcibly loaded into cage trucks.
Families were only notified through brief, monitored phone calls, confirming their loved ones had been moved to Ward 6 of Evin Prison, long associated with political and ideological detainees.
From One Harsh Environment to Another
Before the transfer, the women were held in Qarchak Prison’s “Club Ward”, described by inmates and families as “inhumane” due to overcrowding, lack of ventilation, inadequate sanitation, and limited toilets and showers.
In August, the ward faced a crisis when water and electricity were cut off, food distribution was suspended, and no medical staff were present, leaving prisoners hungry, without power, and with no access to medical care.
Families’ Growing Concern and Official Silence
Despite the scale of the transfer and the deteriorating conditions, no official from the Prisons Organization or Judiciary has provided any explanation. Families report that they cannot visit or send blankets or warm clothing, and prisoner phone access is limited to a few minutes per week.
