A Leader of the Student Movement
Sarina Shiri, a 19-year-old young woman from Javanrud in western Iran, was a high school student at Nasim High School in Kermanshah, also in the western part of the country.
Sarina Shiri was known as an active and passionate advocate for her peers, playing a central role in organizing student protests in her hometown. Her dedication to freedom and justice placed her on the frontlines of Iran’s student movement, inspiring many around her.
Each day, after school, Sarina would take to the streets with her friends, courageously joining the protests, chanting for justice, and boldly voicing the call for “Death to Khamenei.”
On October 1, 2022, Sarina’s life was abruptly and cruelly cut short. Agents from the Ministry of Intelligence apprehended her, subjecting her to brutal torture that ultimately claimed her life.
In the heavily surveilled environment that surrounded her family, Sarina was quietly laid to rest in Sarpol-e Zahab, a town in western Iran. Only her immediate family attended her funeral, forced into silence by the state’s oppressive grip.
