Neda Mohammadi, a 24-year-old resident of Tehran’s Niroo Havaye (Piroozi) neighborhood, took to the streets during the nationwide protests in January 2026. On the night of January 9, she was directly shot by repressive forces and lost her life.
Neda had joined the demonstrations alongside her mother and father. When repressive forces opened fire on the crowd, the first bullet struck Neda’s leg; however, she refused to give up, wrapped her scarf around her wounded leg, stood back up, and continued chanting. Even in that state, she rushed to aid other injured protesters.
Minutes later, a second bullet struck her heart, and Neda passed away in her father’s arms.
After six days of pressure, threats, and obstruction from security forces, Neda’s body was finally returned to her family. They forced her family to bury their child in silence and without any public gathering.
Neda Mohammadi was a painter who strove to create a more beautiful world with her colors. Her memory and name will never be forgotten.
