Mahshad Kashani Re-Arrested in Isfahan’s Chaharbagh Amid Nationwide Protests

January 3, 2026
in Women's News

Mahshad Kashani, a university student and former political prisoner, was arrested on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, in the Chaharbagh area of Isfahan, according to social media reports.

She had previously been detained in a separate case, and sentenced to imprisonment, but the date for the enforcement of her final verdict had not yet reached.

As of the time of publication, no official information has been released regarding the arresting authority or her place of detention, leaving her legal status unclear. Her re-arrest coincides with a new wave of nationwide protests that began in in late December 2025.

Mahshad Kashani had earlier been arrested in July 2023 along with 22 other students. She was ultimately sentenced to five years in prison, of which four and a half years were suspended and six months were designated for immediate enforcement. The start date for serving this sentence had been set for January 7, 2026. Her re-arrest prior to the execution of the sentence has raised serious questions regarding the motive and legal basis of this action.

Mahshad Kashani’s family has stated that they have no information about her whereabouts or current condition and have expressed grave concern over the possibility of increased pressure or harsher treatment compared to her previous period of detention.

ABOUT US

NCRI Women Committee

We work extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintain a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women’s rights organizations and NGO’s and the Iranian diaspora.
The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Council meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.
