Political prisoner Hoda Mehreganfar, a 38-year-old electronics engineer from Zarghan, Fars Province, remains in legal limbo at Adelabad Prison in Shiraz. Nearly one year after her arrest in October 2024, she has yet to stand trial and has been denied the possibility of release on bail.
Hoda Mehreganfar faces charges of “membership in and support for the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).” She was initially held for months in custody of the IRGC Intelligence Organization before being transferred to Adelabad Prison. Prior to her arrest, she had undergone gynecological surgery; however, throughout her detention she has been deprived of necessary medical care.
Her prolonged detention without due process highlights yet another case of the systematic violation of political prisoners’ rights in Iran, where denial of medical treatment and obstruction of fair trial rights are routinely deployed as instruments of pressure against political dissidents.
Background on Hoda Mehreganfar
At around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, security agents stormed their home in Zarqan, and arrested Hoda Mehreganfar and her father without providing any warrant.
After several months, they were transferred to Adelabad Prison in Shiraz.
A preliminary hearing for the father and daughter was held via video conference on March 30, 2025. They were accused of alleged connections with an opposition group during this session.
