On Thursday, July 4, 2024, Rana Kourkouri, the sister of Abbas (Mojahed) Kourkouri, a detainee sentenced to death from the nationwide protests, was arrested by security forces at her residence in Tehran. She is currently detained at the Pakdasht Intelligence Detention Center.
Charges Against Rana Kourkouri
Negar Kourkouri, the sister of the detainees, wrote about the charges against Rana: “Last year, due to my sister’s activities on social media, a case was fabricated against her with the accusation of inciting and seducing people to violence and murder. During this period, my sister lived in hiding, but after posting a few comments about the elections, she was found and is currently in the custody of the Pakdasht IRGC Intelligence.”
The Kourkouri Family’s Situation
Rana Kourkouri is married and the mother of two young children. The Kourkouri family is under severe pressure. Abbas (Mojahed) Kourkouri, who is imprisoned in Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz, was arrested during the nationwide protests of 2022, and his death sentence has been upheld by the Supreme Court.
Attempt to Blame Mojahed Kourkouri
Regime officials fabricated scenarios to blame the killing of people by the State Security forces in Izeh, including the murder of Kian Pirfalak, on Mojahed Kourkouri and other young people in the city. Kian Pirfalak’s father stated: “I have no complaints against Mojahed Kourkouri and the people of Izeh, and I never will, because my wife and I saw with our own eyes that the security forces, under the command of Eidi Alipour, shot at our car, injured me, and killed my son.”
On December 20, 2022, armed agents with military equipment attacked Mojahed Kourkouri ‘s home in the village of Parsila, Izeh, wounding and arresting him.
Condition of Political Prisoner Mojahid Kourkouri, Physical and Psychological Torture
Mojahed Kourkouri has been held in solitary confinement in Sheiban Prison, Ahvaz, for over a year. He has been deprived of the right to make phone calls to his family and lawyer. During a visit with his family, he revealed physical and psychological torture aimed at extracting forced confessions.
According to him, the agents repeatedly subjected him to mock executions and forced him to take pills that caused disorientation and speech problems.
