in Women's News

The First Branch of the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj sentenced Suma Pour-Mohammadi to 11 years in prison and banishment to Kermanshah in two separate cases.

Suma Pour-Mohammadi teaches Kurdish language. She is a member of the board of directors of a social and cultural organization in Sanandaj, called Nojin.

Sanandaj is the capital of Kurdistan Province in western Iran.

She has been sentenced to 10 years in prison on charges of “formation of a group to sabotage national security.” The court also banished her to the Central Prison of Kermanshah.

The court hearing was held three days ago, on April 17, 2024.

The 106th Branch of the Criminal Court of Sanandaj also sentenced Suma Pour-Mohammadi to one year in prison for “disrupting national security.” This verdict is suspended.

Suma Pour-Mohammadi, 35, was arrested on January 18, 2024, when she had referred to the court to inquire about the situation of her detained husband. She was temporarily released from prison on bail after 27 days.

ABOUT US

NCRI Women Committee

We work extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintain a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women’s rights organizations and NGO’s and the Iranian diaspora.
The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Council meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.
