Iranian nurses held protests to demand their unfulfilled rights.
Nurses of Golestan and Baghai hospitals in Ahvaz, capital of southwestern Khuzestan Province, held protest rallies on Saturday, April 13, 2024, protesting forced overtime work, unpaid wages, and changes to tariff laws.
The healthcare workers in Bagh-e Malek, Khuzestan Province, also held a rally outside the Governor’s Office on Saturday, April 13, 2024, protesting lack of accurate tariff laws, failure to pay bonuses, and forced overtime work.
Iranian nurses also held protest rallies on April 8, 2024, in Shiraz and Lamerd, in the southern province of Fars, as well as in Yasuj, the capital of the southwestern Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad Province.
Iranian nurses held rallies outside the Governor’s Office in the capital, Shiraz, and the Governorate building in Lamerd, against their dire living conditions, high prices, and poverty. They said, “Enough with hollow promises, our tables are empty.”
There is a shortage of more than 240,000 nurses in Iran. Nearly 3,000 nurses emigrate from Iran every year due to harsh work conditions, and lack of pay. A considerable number of nurses and healthcare workers have committed suicide in recent years.
