The clerical regime’s Judiciary sentenced three PMOI political prisoners to 35 years of imprisonment.

Tehran’s Revision Court sentenced political prisoner Zahra Safaei to five years of imprisonment. The 26th Branch of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court sentenced each of two PMOI political prisoners, Marzieh Farsi and Forough Taghipour, to 15 years in jail.

Marzieh Farsi and Forough Taghipour were arraigned on their charges on December 9, 2023. They were accused of Bagh-ye (or armed insurgency) for “membership in opposition groups.”

Zahra Safaei, born in 1962, is the daughter of Hassan Ali Safaei, one of Tehran Bazaar’s well-known merchants. Mr. Safaei was one of the political prisoners under the deposed Shah time, who was executed in Evin Prison by the mullahs’ regime in 1981 for being a PMOI supporter.

Zahra Safaei was a political prisoner in the 1980s for eight years in Evin and Qezel Hesar prisons for supporting the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). Her sister is a member of the PMOI in Ashraf-3.

She was arrested with her daughter in Tehran on February 24, 2020. They spent three years in Evin and Qarchak prisons. Zahra Safaei suffered a heart stroke on October 27, 2020, after being harassed and intimidated by prison authorities.

They were released on February 9, 2023, only to be rearrested on September 13, 2023, on the eve of the anniversary of the 2022 uprising.

On November 26, 2023, the 26th Branch of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran sentenced them each to five years in prison on charges of “collusion and assembly to commit a crime against national security.”

PMOI political prisoner Zahra Safaei has two balloons in her heart and cannot endure prison conditions.

Ms. Taghipour and her mother were arrested on February 24, 2020. She received a five-year sentence on charges of “propaganda against the state” and “assembly and collusion” through membership in the opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

Forough Taghipour spent three years in Evin and Qarchak prisons, before being released in February 2023.

She was rearrested on August 21, 2023, during the spree of arrests on the eve of the anniversary of the 2022 uprising.

Forough Taghipour’s father and sister are members of the PMOI in Ashraf-3.

Her brother was executed during the massacre of 30,000 political prisoners in 1988. Her two sisters and a brother are members of the PMOI in Ashraf-3.

Marzieh Farsi was arrested on February 18, 2020, in Shahr-e Rey, imprisoned and tortured.

Suffering from cancer, she spent three years in Evin and Qarchak prisons before being released on February 22, 2023, from the women’s ward of Evin Prison.

She and Forough Taghipour were rearrested on August 21, 2023, during the round of arrests before the anniversary of the 2022 uprising.

ABOUT US

NCRI Women Committee

We work extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintain a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women’s rights organizations and NGO’s and the Iranian diaspora.
The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Council meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.
