Political prisoner Raha Pour Ebrahim has been denied medical treatment and hospitalization despite undergoing major surgery. She is serving a three-year sentence in the Central Prison of Mashhad, also known as Vakil Abad Prison.
According to an informed source, she underwent surgery on her right leg on January 10, 2024, but was returned to prison before achieving full recovery and receiving the necessary medical treatment. Currently, she needs to have the stitches removed from her leg, but the authorities at the Central Prison of Mashhad do not permit her to do so. This cruel denial constitutes a form of torture against this political prisoner.
Raha Pour Ebrahim had sought medical attention seven times from the prison doctor, two months before her operation, due to an object penetrating her right leg. Unfortunately, the prison doctor did not take her concerns seriously.
Arrested on September 7, 2023, by security forces in Mashhad, the Revolutionary Court of Mashhad initially sentenced her to 7.5 years in prison on charges of “propaganda against the state” and “social network activities aiming to disrupt public order.” Her verdict was later commuted to three years.
Couple to serve 3.5 years in prison
Negin Hosseinzadeh and her husband, Mehdi Sadr, are currently serving a 3.5-year sentence in the Central Prison of Mashhad. They were arrested at their residence in Mashhad on August 22, 2023, initially taken to a detention center by Intelligence Department agents. After 14 days, they were transferred to the Central Prison of Mashhad.
On October 22, 2023, the first branch of the Revolutionary Court of Mashhad handed down a sentence of 16 years in prison for each of them. The charges included one year for ‘propaganda against the state,’ three years for taking film from forbidden places, five years for ‘assembly and collusion to disrupt public order,’ two years for ‘insulting’ (Ali Khamenei), and five years for ‘membership in opposition groups.’
However, on January 11, 2024, the Revision Court of Razavi Khorasan Province commuted their sentences to three years and six months, plus one day each.
Notably, Negin Hosseinzadeh and Mehdi Sadr have two children.
