The clerical regime imprisons PMOI/MEK supporters in Iran

The clerical regime imprisons PMOI/MEK supporters in Iran

Detentions are mullahs’ reaction to the eve of the second anniversary of the November 2019 uprising

The clerical regime imprisons PMOI/MEK supporters in Iran.

Fearing the outbreak of protests on the eve of the second anniversary of the November 2019 uprising, the clerical regime has arrested and imprisoned a number of supporters of the main Iranian opposition group, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

Agents of the Intelligence Ministry in Rasht, the capital of the northern Gilan Province, arrested a group of supporters of the PMOI/MEK and former political prisoners and transferred them to the Lakan Prison of Rasht.

In a statement on October 30, 2021, the Secretariat of the National Council of Resistance of Iran published the names of some of those arrested, including several women.

Aqil Rahnama, 60, a political prisoner for 12 years in the 1980s and 1990s, and his wife, Narges Shirbacheh.

Ebrahim Hozouri, a political prisoner of the 1980s, and husband of Ms. Mahin Akbari who has been imprisoned since September. Prison authorities have extended her sentence for another year because of her refusing to ask Khamenei to pardon her. In protest, she has been on hunger strike since October 21.

Ms. Simrokh Bozorg Zia Bary and Ms. Zahra Haghgoo, whose sister and brother are with the PMOI/MEK in Ashraf-3 in Albania.

Ahmad Behnami, 58, a political prisoner for two years in the 1980s, and his wife, Ozra Taheri.

The Iranian resistance calls on the United Nations, the European Union, member states, and all human rights organizations and authorities to take immediate action to secure the release of political prisoners and send an international delegation to visit the prisons and meet with the prisoners.

ABOUT US

NCRI Women Committee

We work extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintain a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women’s rights organizations and NGO’s and the Iranian diaspora.
The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Council meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.
