Political prisoner Somayyeh Qoraishi has been jailed since 6 months ago without the news of her detention being reported by the Iranian regime’s authorities or media.
Political prisoner Somayyeh Qoraishi is charged with “cooperation with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).”
In Autumn 2020, the 2nd Branch of the Revolutionary Court of Urmia sentenced Somayyeh Qoraishi to 18 months in prison for “cooperating with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK)” and readily took her to the Central Prison of Urmia to serve her sentence in the women’s ward.
Somayyeh Qoraishi, from Urmia, had been initially arrested and detained last summer. She was temporarily released on bail after a month.
In the past year and particularly after the November 2019 uprising in Iran, the clerical regime made a considerable number of arbitrary arrests among supporters of its main opposition force, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).
The Central Prison of Urmia is among the most notorious Iranian prisons plagued with coronavirus and a high death toll and a large number of cases.
The women’s ward is located in Ward 15 of the Central Prison of Urmia. Some 500 women are presently detained in this ward and more than half of the detainees have no beds and have to sleep on the floor.
