A state-backed mullah endorsed use of violence against mal-veiled women.
Hadavi Tehrani said, “On the issue of prohibiting vice and promoting virtue, the government is entitled to use physical punishment! Religious scholars are substitutes of the innocent imams and therefore are allowed to deal physically with violators while promoting virtue and prohibiting vice.”

Commander of the State Security Force in Boroujerd (western Lorestan Province) also announced that they would deal with mal-veiled women in summer. He said, “Some women wear thin clothes because of hot weather. The SSF of Boroujerd is going to deal with them decisively.”
He added, “Obvious pretenses of mal-veiling and non-veiling in society is a sin and leads to crime.”
