The Oct. 29 missile attack on Camp Liberty has been the heaviest attack so far on this camp, leaving at least 23 dead and two dozen seriously injured.
The Camp is devastated as more than 80 Katyusha and Falagh missiles were used in this attack. The missiles left craters as big as 2 meters deep and 3.5 meters wide. Powerful explosions has destroyed many of the trailers and camp facilities. The damages inflicted on the camp and its crucial infrastructures has been estimated at $10 million.
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, strongly condemned the attack.
“The Iranian regime’s agents within the Iraqi Government are responsible for the latest assault,” she said in a statement. “The United States and the United Nations are fully aware of this reality.”
In Washington, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry condemned the attack in a statement issued Thursday night.
“We are consulting with the Government of Iraq to ascertain the full extent of this unprovoked attack,” the statement said. “No matter the circumstances, on this point we remain absolute: the United States remains committed to assisting the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in the relocation of all Camp Hurriya residents to a permanent and safe location outside of Iraq.”
