The state-run Ariya news agency sounded the alarm on the rising number of women sleeping in Tehran streets.
“For some time now we have been hearing more and more about women sleeping in the streets, and the issue becomes even more complex when pregnant women are also seen amongst them,” the news agency writes.
Daneshvar, head of the Tehran City Council Social Committee said the number of women sleeping on the streets of Tehran is on the rise.
“While two years ago it was reported that 12,000 people are sleeping in the streets, the director of Tehran reported this number has risen to 15,000 in 2014. These are the latest numbers reported on April 9 by the Tehran Municipality Welfare Organization,” he said.
“While we are witnessing a rise in this regard with pregnant women and children also seen sleeping on the streets, the outskirts of Tehran are being turned into areas where more and more homeless children are seen sleeping in the streets,” he continued.
