Tehran’s Friday prayer leader, mullah Ahmad Khatami warned men last Friday against lack of zeal over women’s improper veiling. He said, “Unfortunately, improper veiling in our society is much worse than not veiling.”
An alarmed Khatami accused men of being indifferent to improper veiling. He warned, “We must know that the main aim of the enemy is to strike at our Islamic government by promoting the culture of not wearing the veil in society.”
Khatami tried to incite the unaware men against women who do not cave in to the regime’s compulsory dress code by describing “three types of zeal” in society: religious zeal, national zeal and honor zeal. “These are the three criteria for zeal that everyone must abide by in the Islamic regime.” (State-run Digarban website, Aug. 22, 2015)
