Reports from women’s Qarchak Prison in Varamin indicate that there has been a sewage problem in this prison for more than one week and officials have refused to fix the problem despite inmates’ protests.
The sewage system has spilt over in the prison’s courtyard, where prisoners are taken for their daily walk and breathing in fresh air, but now they have been deprived of doing so and officials use this as a form of torture.
At the same time, the monthly removal of waste has caused great sanitary problem in summer and female prisoners are under distress because of insects and the odor filling the prison’s atmosphere.
