Dear friends,
I am Maria Candida Almeida, a deputy attorney general of Portugal. My heart and my thoughts are with you, they’re always with you in your struggle, which is also mine, for Justice, Freedom, and Human Rights.
It’s a pleasure and a privilege to be here again with you today.
Mrs. Rajavi, thank you for your tireless efforts, your courage, tenacity and strong leadership in fighting oppression, because you are an example for us and you are teaching us that we can and we must fight for human rights.
I strongly believe that we are here today because we all have a humanitarian obligation to defend the rights of the people who are suffering,like the people in Camp Liberty and other places in the world . But more important, I believe that it is the responsibility of all lawyers and jurists who have vowed to defend what is true, to join me in this responsibility. The responsability as a woman, a human being and a jurist of fighting for equality, solidarity, fraternity, peace and other human rights like freedom, education, culture and acceptance of the difference.
In fact, the International Declaration of Human Rights is absolute because it stands for the dignity of the Human Being and our goal is to fight for its effective application all over the world.
People have the right to live in decent conditions and be free, and one cannot use the law otherwise.
Unfortunately, women are still the first targets of prejudice, discrimination, violence and the lack of equal rights.
We can’t accept, as jurists and as human beings, the discrimination of women carried out systematically by acts of stoning, lashing and acid attacks and other kinds of violence towards women.
Woman is Earth, representation of Fertility, Sensibility and Love, that carries in her womb the Future of Humanity, our children, their Freedom, love, sensibility and the struggle for a Free, Fratern, Tolerant and Just World.
The international community can’t be silent to all the injustice to the people around the world as well as all the illegal measures taken against the residents of Camp Liberty who are suffering daily.
Dears friends, I believe you are the carriers of the Ideal of Freedom, Equality and Justice and all the Human Rights written in The International Declaration of Human Rights. You represent the hope for a better world.
This is why I am here with over six hundred dignitaries, parliamentarians, political and social personalities, from five continents, who have come to show solidarity for the ones who are suffering, to say that I stand for human rights, equality and very important, the chance to live and be free.
I offer you my fraternity and solidarity, because alone we re nothing. Together we have the strengh and determination to make a world where the Universal Principles and Values are in force. We want. We can. We should.
